UNESCO Biosphere Reservation

Starigrad Paklenica is a picturesque town situated at the coastal route Rijeka – Zadar in the northern part of Dalmatia. The town emerged from the ancient city of Argyruntum. Today Starigrad presents the center of the Riviera Paklenica at the bottom of Croatia’s highest mountain, the Velebit (2274 km²). The National Park Paklenica with its impressive canyons Velika and Mala Paklenica belongs to the UNESCO list of Biosphere Reservations.

Activities

The Paklenica Riviera combines a mild mediterranean climate with the rougher climate of the Velebit Mountain, which makes it an ideal place for your activity holiday. A variety of sports and recreational activities like walking, climbing and rafting await you. You will also find numerous water sport opportunities at the many pebble beaches along the Riviera. More action and adventure await at mountain climbing between forest woods at the “Adrenaline Park” in Starigrad.

The nature parks Velebit, Telašćica and Vrana Lake as well as several UNESCO World Heritage Sites like the city of Split and the medieval town Trogir are a must see and guarantee enjoyable daytrips. The Plitvice Lakes and Krka National Parks are approx. 90 km away from Paklenica Riviera. The famous sea organ built in 2005 by architect Nikola Bašić in Zadar is a popular destination. We will be glad to assist you in organizing your trips.

Culinary delights: “Bio” as a tradition

The Dalmatian Cuisine consists of healthy and mediterranean food. You will be offered fresh sea food, as well as a rich variety of organic fruits and vegetables of local produce in most restaurants and at markets. Due to the bleak karst landscape and long draughts during summers Dalmatians have had to rely on homegrown and homebred produce ever since. This tradition is still alive today. You will taste the difference. Your self-catering will present a sheer delight!

A pause for breath

Whether you prefer to simply relax at the beach and in street cafés, or explore the surrounding nature, cultural and historic sites, or dedicate your time to your favourite sports – you will find it all in Starigrad Paklenica.
